There's a perfect distance to stand from the mirrored wall in the dance studio at the gym. I'll admit, I can get a bit love locked with my own image from the distance of 1.5 - 2 metres. I presume it's the endorphins. The way I stare intensely and the light hits my cheek bones - it really is a delight to see and provides a strong counter argument to say, the door bell cam, which can shut up. So, that's how I've ended up with DOMS in my vastus lateralis. During the slow count squats with a heavier barbell weight I tested out how low I could go whilst still keeping form. It felt so powerful and I impressed myself and got hearts in my eyes, so carried on. Now, dressed for the gym, desperate to challenge my top speed for a run (I'm new at running and had zero clue I could run, so everything feels like some amazing mind over matter event - although no mirrors for the treadmill and I prefer to imagine sweat drenched hair looking great than face the reality). I managed a steady pace with some sprints whilst trying to get to a 30 minute 5K. I'm probably not there yet, particularly because I've not ran for 30 minutes or 5K, but my bravest speed so far was 8.5mph. I wanted to go for 9 or 9.5 today, just for a minute or so but it seems silly if I've already ripped my thighs up. Plus I've just had a toastie and a cappuccino. My brain keeps seductively whispering that I should do it. My Fitbit app is sending me love notes to say I'm ready and my fitness is "very good - excellent". I'm salivating thinking of that post run high and my hit of electrolytes. I'm just going to argue a little longer with my quads. I respect you quads, you know I do...
