THE SNOWS OF LOVE
It was a very cold day I was tired all afternoon, I felt the need to sleep and I took to my bed, I double checked the stack of diapers, because I knew you would arrive soon. Outside the little trailer we called home, I could here the winds blow, I lulled off to sleep, as the winter winds blew in more snow. Your father would arrive home late at night, as he worked a second shift, I had made him some supper, as the snows began to drift. The house smelled good from my cooking, I went back to bed and started to fall asleep, I felt my stomach shift with a loud pop, I yelled, "oh, this can't be." I called for your father he was watching television, I told him my water broke, he looked at me like it was a joke, I told him again and then the chaos, well you can just envision. Just five weeks prior- in the month of January, there was a blizzard so famous it made headlines, but you my child remained safe and warm, still waiting to be born on the sidelines. So off we drove in the month of March, to the hospital that wasn't too far, but your father got lost in his anxiety, I was in pain but was really excited. I was ready to see you and wasn't in labor long, You came into this world sucking your little thumb, The doctor said "we got a thumb sucker", I heard a slap and then a cry, to me it was a beautiful song. You were lying upon my chest, your father cut your cord, we looked at one another, we were in another world, the doctor said " you have a little girl. Your hair was dark, your eyes so big, your beautiful birth marks placed by angels, you nursed and then they took you away, they cleaned you up and we named you, Michelle Nicole Day. Time has passed and things have happened, but a mother's love can never be erased, my time has come and I will go, but this is something you should know. Think of me every time you see it snow.
