Gary Snyder is American poet, essayist, lecturer, and environmental activist. In 1975 he won the Pulitzer Prize for Poetry. His work, in his various roles, reflects an immersion in both Buddhist spirituality and nature. He is America's primary poet of the wilderness, poet-exponent of environmentalism and Zen Buddhism.
