 The sailorman's child
And the girl of the witch--
They can't be defiled
By touching pitch.
The sailorman's son Had a ship for a nursery; The other one Was baptised by sorcery.
Although he's shipped To the Persian Gulf, her Body's been dipped In burning sulphur.

 Oh, black Persian cat!
Was not your life
already cursed with offspring?
We took you for rest to that old
Yankee farm,—so lonely
and with so many field mice
in the long grass—
and you return to us
in this condition—!

Oh, black Persian cat.

by Robert Herrick
 That flow of gallants which approach
To kiss thy hand from out the coach;
That fleet of lackeys which do run
Before thy swift postilion;
Those strong-hoof'd mules, which we behold
Rein'd in with purple, pearl, and gold,
And shed with silver, prove to be
The drawers of the axle-tree;
Thy wife, thy children, and the state
Of Persian looms and antique plate:
--All these, and more, shall then afford
No joy to thee, their sickly lord.
