Poem
POTD 29 Jan 2020 A balmy fragrance of cedar and lime lingers A will o wisp floats by gathering dew A mark on the page of another man’s book A brightly coloured crayon of an unknown hue A footprint in golden sands sinking deep A delicate daisy plucked petal of love An afterglow of a smile when day is done A twinkling star shining above I bring no rhythm to normality’s rhyme How can I be what they want me to be? Cut down by rejection my enemy is time To be or not to be~ my only crime Their cruel jeers and jibes cut raw and deep Beneath this guise the voice cries somewhere Vulnerable and naked a stripped mentality Two steps from liberty ~one from despair Fell short of their instincts or was it just me? A father gone missing and a mother who fell No method actor I ~ just can’t fake a smile Two steps from Heaven ~ one step from Hell I am what I am no matter what you see A trapped persona in my very own shadow Sadness overcomes me ~ leave me be Go out on a limb ~ follow your own rainbow Don’t implore me to stay When all I want ~ is to go Forgive me please Freedom beckons so seductively Gender roles in society means how we’re expected to act, speak, dress, groom, and conduct ourselves based upon our assigned sex. In the late 80’s and early 90’s in Oz many people who came ‘out of the closet’ so to speak, were being alienated because they were perceived as too different or just too weird for the norm. This poem is written for a dear friend who felt that life had given up on him. In spite of being his best friend and neighbour for many years, there was nothing I could do to convince him to stay. He descended into a downward spiral of his own making, and gave up on himself at the tender age of 26, many moons ago. I didn’t think it was right to share any photos of this beautiful man, but if you can imagine a blonde version of Adam Lambert the singer ~ that’s who he looked like. A powerhouse of talent and good looks. What I can share with you are some of his creations. He could virtually design and whip up a dress to wear in mere hours, as he did for me in the above images posted. A sweet sensitive person who would do anything for a friend and a very handy person to have as a neighbour. Got to laugh at the 80’s hair!. ~Gone but not forgotten~ POTD 29 Jan 2020
