The Packing of a Suitcase

Consider, Recall, Reflect, Hesitate, Tremble Before your life's vast sweep. Step back; Try to fathom How much it's all meant. Crease, Fold, Pile, Stack, Mark Each decade's clothing you've worn. Pause! Write a poem to Bid all your lovers adieu. Whimper, Cry, Sob, Weep for-- Last suitcase ever you'll pack. March 07, 2018

100 times?! I don't have any magic tricks up my sleeve. Maybe I should delete this poem? -- But you may have it memorized by now. Thanks, gw

As an earlier comment says 'it makes you think' Every line is moving but 'try to fathom how much its all meant'. I know the reader should take the poem how they understand it, but I love it too much not to ask: is he packing for carehome? Or is it a metaphor for coming terms with the end of your life?

It could be either, though I kind of pointed it toward coming to terms with life's end... Appreciate all of your support, Tansy. Happy Friday! Life and Light, Gershon

Gershon, This poem reminded me how much I hate to pack a suitcase. Always wondered who had it hardest, the ones departing or those that wave goodbye. -Richard

Such an intriguing and compelling poem Gershon exquisitely 'packed' with the emotional wardrobe of life; pieces that fit or don't fit anymore and pieces out-of-date but still kept in the back of the closet for old times sake.. Absolutely captivating and emotionally riveting write. Congratulations on your well deserved POTD! Enjoy the honors of the day my friend. Warmest wishes. ~Susan

Susan, your praise humbles me...it is truly 'sung' well...Stray thought: Why not start a professional recommendation-writing service: "Words to Work" or s/t like that...Best wishes, Gershon

Ha, Ha. Always good to recall the good old days...I myself had the 'good fortune' to have two such periods in my life: Once from 23 - 25 years of age, straight out of college; the second time when I separated from my first wife, at age 37...Oh, well. Happy trails, John!
