The Light

I am not sure what my last hour will look like Although I have a fairly good idea, As I’ve sat at many people’s side as they lived their last hour. As the spirit starts to leave the body, the spark dulls in your eyes, You seem to be somewhere between worlds, Talking to others that seem to be waiting but they can’t be seen by anyone in this world. While many may think you are confused, in fact, you are preparing to pass to the other side. These people that you are talking to are usually family that have previously passed on. They wait to guide you into the light and across into heaven. All people tend to experience the same near-death activity, picking a covers and moving hands and often talking to the awaiting people. This is all very calming to the dying person and I only hope that when my last hour is here, I hope my family is there waiting to guide me into the light. Written July 21, 2011

Wow, this was really great. It made me think of being with my grandparents when they passed on. Thank you so much for sharing it.

Simply beautiful, Lee. A very spiritual and up-lifting affirmation that death is nothing to fear - as it is just the beginning of something much more beautiful than life here on earth. Very touching and heart-felt. Your friend, Elaine

Lee, I'm absolutely certain that our late loved ones' spirits are waiting to guide us to the light. I, too, have watched people die and have seen the spark leave their eyes. My grandmother knew when her time was at hand and had been talking to her late husband for a couple days before she passed. Very meaningful poem that truly is an upbeat perspective on death. Best wishes in the contest. Love, Carolyn
