That Quick
That quick
the Christmas carols done,
the gifts and wrapping paper undone,
all quiet and still,
the laughter and anticipation lost its thrill,
somehow it seems incomplete.
So much preparation laid out
lost now, in the wavering shouts
that the New Year is coming close
as the hours on the clock approach
the midnight hour of new change
what do we seek to gain?
A little peace, far less wars
less indifference to fear and hate
what lay ahead?
For now, we pray
and wait
hoping it's not too late.
