Said the Worm To the Bird
Wally the worm was happy enough,
squirming around in the muddy stuff.
He popped out his head to take a look
and saw he was somewhere near a brook.
‘I seem to have got my bearings all wrong
for this is a place I do not belong’
said Wally speaking far too loud,
for there stood a bird, chest out proud!
‘Hello Mr. Bird’ said Wally with fear
for the bird was simply far too near.
‘Good morning Mr. Worm’ the bird replied,
thinking his tummy needed a worm inside.
‘I’ve got this wrong, I took a wrong turn’
said the worm with an awkward wriggle and squirm.
‘Oh, I believe you’ve taken the perfect route’
replied the devious bird who was very astute.
‘Have you ever been taken up in the sky?’
asked the hungry bird preparing to fly.
‘You’re ever so kind but I’m late for my tea
because this isn’t really a place I should be’
‘You’re obviously lost, please let me assist’,
said the bird to the worm, who had to persist.
‘You see I can deliver you wherever you'd like'
said the bird to the worm, ready to strike.
‘Who’s that I can see up there in the tree?
Is it another bird much bigger than thee?’
said the worm to the bird in a bid to deter
being eaten, which of course he didn’t prefer.
‘Don’t try that on me, I am no fool’
said the bird to the worm as his beak did drool.
'There's no bird behind, I know for a fact,
it's simply a method to try to distract.'
In a flash the bird was locked in a beak
no longer able to threaten or speak.
The bigger bird winked at Wally who's smirking
for tomorrow the worm would lure another bird lurking.
