On Becoming Old
There's so much richness in our hearts,
when we realize that everything we held
for granted, is about to vanish before our
eyes in a matter of limited time.
Gradually we come closer with family members
who we couldn't call for decades;
We slowly begin building bridges with people
we had wronged;
In silence, we enjoy every scent of rain, flowers,
and trees;
Our skins become more excited when the ocean breeze
blows;
We find more value in smiling at a stranger,
for a smile is one of the most valuable gifts we can give;
We see the world with new eyes....
