My Mind At Five

My Mind at Five I was but five, I had a fear. It was my mind, the dark was near! I could not sleep, I rolled and tossed. Could hear them creep, as they by me, passed! I saw the trees move in the wind. Their branches screamed, I saw them grin! The moonlit lights showed me their glares, That the window glass and the cupboards bared! What could I do, they wanted in! I ran to you, you tucked me in. You explained to me, it was all in my head, And that I had to sleep in my own safe bed! So, this went on, every night till late. I did hang on, but my eyes gave weight. In the darkest night, with my eyes shut tight, They antagonized me with my mind and sight. Then came the day, I grew up in age. But my mind at five, how it took center stage! 30 July 2018
