Midnight's Cauldron

Oh, dark temptress and torturer Holder of the keys of Mordor. Your soothing darkness but a ruse A bed of scented petals Laid atop a snare of evil, A lie conjured by an aching heart Beneath a coldly cryptic moon. No warmth will ease that cruel chill The eerie sense that says stay clear As mesmerized we gaze in awe Into the depth of darkened sky Entranced by starlight’s distant hope We feel the tug of Merlin’s staff Upon the edge of Gollum’s soul.

Dear John, "dark temptress and torturer" -wow! A dramatic first verse filled with foreboding and a knowing of the night. Indeed, "starlight's distant hope" is beyond your grasp. A deep, riveting piece. Congratulations for your win in Empress's contest. Warmest wishes my poet friend.. ~Susan

Ah dear John, i was quite surprised to see a dark poem on soup, and it speaks to me on a deep level, as deep within me theres a dark poet. And I absolutely love the cadence and imagery and depth of this and your wordplay too is excellent! It might not be a novel, but its just right and perfect in my eyes. I can see why this got NA as dark poetry is not appreciated much here but i just want to say i loved every bit of this! Creative clever write! Thank you for sharing. Congratulations on your win

- We should listen to the eerie sense ... evil and lies "beneath a coldly cryptic moon" ... a deep and dark poem, John - hugs

I picture these words being chanted over a bubbling cauldron, but by a bad witch or a good one? That will require more thought or more chanting into the cauldron. You up for it?
