For once this is not fiction Can you change the past? I yearn to, But on condition I carry with me All that I have learned. But you cannot change the past. Still, I yearn for a bottle Of chilled white wine Chablis. Delicious on the palette, Exquisite with rice and plenty of seafood. The aroma of truffled sauce, the razor clams, The pinkish prawns and open-wide oysters. It is my delight. I yearn for silence, away from rife, The sounds of cars crashing, the boom of guns, The killing of innocent people. I yearn for peace. I yearn to travel as I used, For I visited half of Europe And ventured to Brazil. Now I’m Island bound and Travel is no more. You look good, they say. But only on the outside. I yearn for health inside: The small inoperable cancer, Kept in check by implants With bouts of depression That twice I deleted my poetry site. Good thing I kept copies of my writings. But my heart is weak after Twenty years when I had a triple bypass. My right eye has the beginning of a cataract, My left knee needs a replacement But with Diabetes 2 no operation can be done. I yearn for my wife. Seven years I still grieve for her. She’s in Heaven now. I yearn for my beloved Lord. The creator of all. I pray He takes care of me. May He grant me a happy death. And may the Rose of Sharon help me too.

I felt sad reading your poem, dearest Victor. True to life, as we age, we may yearn for the things we once enjoyed, like our favourite foods and travel. However, it can be difficult when we realize we've lost loved ones and our health isn't what it used to be. My heart aches for you. Though you have taken the right attitude, I feel. During these times, turning to God for solace and grace through prayer and faith can provide the strength and support needed to overcome life's challenges. My love and hugs to you xxx

Victor, your lovely poem touched me, as it revisited the times of your life, both happy and sad, years of travel, grief and health challenges, your yearnings, regrets and loves. This is a fave. :)

This is so heart stirring. I know there is no element of fiction here, but pure autobiography. Even with many ailments, you look so good. I assume this is your real picture. In our long life we lose many dear ones. Don't grieve for them. Believe they are in a better state. Hope there is a state of bliss awaiting us too. So don't fear death. A beautiful poem. I send you much love and prayers

such a powerful and poignant poem, Victor. I can relate to your yearnings. Seems like age and circumstances create emptiness that we long to fill by returning to a time, place, situation, or person that was. I am sad to learn of your inoperable cancer. Each day must be a bit of a challenge for you, but I admire the strength I see in your poetic words. Sending you hugs and prayers, Sara

Sweet bio poetry Victor. The sad truth is if we live long enough we're going to lose someone dear, or they will lose us. Adam's curse, my friend. Better days are ahead for faithful ones

These type of non fiction ones are always the most powerful Victor, the yearning is palpable and fully understandable, depression on its own is difficult enough, but with all the other contributing illnesses and grief on top, what more can I say, other than I wish you well! An extremely raw emotive piece, cheers David

Poignancy in your words, dear poet. At a certain age, the pleasures are held at bay, with mostly memories. My Dad had some laughs when a cousin visited a couple weeks ago. We went to a beautiful winery in the Yonah Mountains. Dad is the only parent left from us and our cousin (his mom was my mom’s twin). Brought joy to my cousin to talk to Dad. Praying for you, my dear friend. Jesus will certainly receive you. Hugs ~ Kim

Victor, an excellent poem is all about longing for many parts of life. Rewriting history, savoring life's little pleasures like wine and food, overcoming hardships like disease and loss, and finding comfort in one's religion are all necessities. Feelings of spirituality, longing for physical and mental well, reminiscences of trips, encounters with disease, sadness over loved ones' deaths, and contemplation of the past are all components of powerful imagery and language.
