Grief
How long you suffer, death robbed heart,
new grief strikes each day; oh, cruel art.
Grief creeps along the flowered lanes to leap
out unexpectedly strong,
stealing life’s happiness.
I waken lonely in the night
oppressive darkness gathers strong
about my bed. Where is the light
to lead me onward into song?
Outside the pale moon
peers softly into my room,
comforting in sleep.
