“I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though
he die, yet shall he live, and everyone who lives and believes in me
shall never die."
Jesus Christ
I grew up in a Roman Catholic religious home,
and went to a school run by many nuns:
religion was drilled into my head each school day,
I recall the lessons on Christ's crucifixion;
and his resurrection from the dead on Easter Sunday,
to me, the child, it was about both sorrow and joy.
My family celebrated Easter with a gathering,
and I always got a new dress and shoes:
it was Spring and the flowers were blooming,
we kids always got gifts like fluffy stuffed toys;
chocolate bunnies and colorful eggs and such,
these had nothing to do with the religious part.
The significance of Easter become clearer to me,
as I go older and realized Christ died for us:
his resurrection brings me thoughts of hope, joy,
and rebirth, and new beginnings and love;
of course there is meaning in the spring flowers,
that make a showing right at Eastertime.
White lilies represent purity and rebirth,
tulips of all hues are about deep unconditional love:
and daffodils are happiness and joy to behold,
I am sure each spring bloom has a reason for being;
although Easter is sad because of Christ's death,
it is about his grace, faith and his inspiration.
So, what was drilled into my head as a child,
has become a belief that has comforted me:
through grieving and loss, it is a glowing light,
that shines within not just at Easter but forever,
just ask Christ to take your hand and he will;
no matter what ... Christ will be your miracle.
