Flying

Scared of flying Dropping like a stone from The big blue sky With a plop into the waters beneath Also stained blue, And staining my face blue As the last of my breathe leaves me As I sink deeper and deeper, Becoming nothing but debris on the soft ocean floor It is not so much death, as dying That I fear If I had to choose, I would choose for myself A quiet death My heartbeat lingers, then gradually fades Not beating uncontrollably As the long snout Of some sea creature Comes in view And it snaps me in half Accidents do happen, but the brave Choose to overcome them, rather than Succumb to them. Needless to say, I am a coward I am scared that the plane's streamlined body With burst into flames Midair And my ashes will be scattered across The great Australian deserts Perhaps then I will truly become Part of Australia

Thanks for sharing this... exposing your thoughts through your unique poetic style. Meanwhile, I greet you with the love of the Lord, expressed by John 3:16 of the Bible, "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life." Be blessed.

This is an excellent poem. I like how the title resonates throughout the poem, and how the essence of being scared of flying is reinforced. I was in Australia recently and visited the War Museum. Great job and welcome to Poetry Soup! ~Joseph

I've flown in just about anything that went up in the air but have been involved in a couple of car accidents. It's safer up there. Good write. God Bless. (also landed on a carrier at sea, FUN STUFF). Vince
