Dia De Los Muertos
Dia de los Muertos
Hurray! It's Dia de los Muertos
The day when we joyfully celebrate
The departed whom we now feel are close
And with whom we can communicate.
We have their photo on the ofrenda
With their favorite savory dishes
Much merriment is on the agenda
Family gatherings and holiday wishes.
Skulls and skeletons are all around
We even paint them on our faces
Marigold flowers colorfully abound
As we lovingly visit the burial places.
Pan de muerto is a favorite treat
Mock epitaphs of friends are shared with laughter
Sugar candy skulls proclaim life is sweet
And continues on in to the hereafter.
Celebrating death to some seems strange
Because they associate death with fear
But with contemplation their minds might change
Seeing eternal life as always here.
