A Black Silk Shawl

A red sun slip-slides down blue skies and sets,
as clouds of pink and scarlet pave the way.
And the night gets wrapped in a black silk shawl,
as darkness snuffs out the last light of day.
As a pocked-faced moon assesses the scene,
Luna rises to reveal Her veiled face.
And darkness drops, setting the stage for dusk,
fixed within the fabric of time and space.
A cloud of bats swarm from secluded caves
to feast on moths, snatched right out of the air.
And while ebony shifting shadows merge,
reflective eyes in the gloom seem to stare.
And the hoot of a lone owl can be heard,
when the lines between day and night are blurred.
