Raining in Summer Poetry Contest

Sponsored by: Ink Empress

The smoldering sun shines incessantly Until the earth’s humidity hastens The forming of cinereal clouds calmly covers The spacious skies above and suddenly Gentle rain soft but steady Begins to fall, splattering and wetting the soil. The pitter-patter pronounces a petrifying tune Upon the roofs, amorous rondel tunes. Oh, how I love the fresh feeling of the rain. I feel like singing in the heavenly showers I get dishevelled and drenched. Yet I will sing a symphony of love, For I am happy even more. Love is in the air. Thank God, no lightning spoils the sky. Yet it rains even more. The grass is even greener now. It sparkles with dewy drops, And sheds its pleasant petrichor, A harmonious and happy fragrance In our vast verdurous vale. Meantime my Mary joined us in the melee`, We dance a Dougie under the deluge, Until tired we went in for a warm shower…….

Dear Victor, such a beautifully written and atmospheric write. Wonderful use of alliteration to express so much. ‘ Yet I will sing a symphony of love’ ‘ It sparkles with dewy drops’. Your lovely imagery draws the reader in where you can hear the fall of the rain and sense its freshness. The love of the rain is so poetically expressed here with the joy and gratitude of love in one’s heart. I loved it. Good luck in the contest dear friend. I think Inky will love this skillfully composed piece.

Good luck with the contest. Rain is always an interesting subject. Rain is enjoyed a lot when it's wanted, and despised when it isn't.

I like how your poem intertwines the natural imagery of rain with themes of love and community. The happiness is amplified by the presence of Mary, and their shared dance in the rain underscores the idea that joy is magnified when experienced together. The "symphony of love" and "harmonious and happy fragrance" highlight the deep connection between natural beauty and emotional fulfillment.

The coming of summer rain is a delightful experience. When sun smolders and the earth lies thirsty, rain comes as a boon ! It is so pleasant to dance with the rhythmic 'pitter patter' of the rain. To get drenched in pouring rain is all the more exciting !Lovely poem, dear Victor.

"I get dishevelled and drenched" -- In Phoenix most everyone goes out and does a rain-dance, loving the wet. "A harmonious and happy fragrance In our vast verdurous vale." Totally refreshing read, Victor! Thank you.

We have lovely summer weather, Victor (which is rare where I live)...I enjoy every day in my garden or out on the sea in our boat - Summer is too short to sit inside and write poems - The last few years we've had bad summers... I don't want to lose a single one now :) - hugs

Impressive alliterations, Victor. I admire anyone who can write alliterations...they are not my strong suit at all :-) Anyway, your poem was joyful and captured the wonder of summertime rain. Glad your Mary joined you in the deluge. How sweet. Also I love 'Singing in the Rain.' You made my evening including it. Have a great evening, blessings, Sara

I enjoyed reading this one, Victor. If for a contest, it reads like a very good contender to me. Way to go. I like the rain at times especially in summer when we are suffering from a lack of it. Thanks for sharing this one with us and for dropping by my page. Sara K
