Haunted By Dreams
Haunted Dreams
I have no desire to sleep this night, or any other night,
There can be no sanctuary from the curse of sleep,
As dark lids close, I'm forced to wake, seeking light,
My world pervaded by the smell of fear, I alone weep.
I have no desire to lock antlers with clowns with horns,
Or be forced to dissect memories in carnival mirrors,
With tongues as knives slashing at my dreams forlorn.
Fleeting seconds of serenity seeking light with scissors .
I have no intention of giving way to you, but I know I will ,
Showing forgotten reels on loops playing over as I sleep,
Clowns in pinstripe suits crying, yet laughing as they kill,
Winged angels dressed in black my soul they seek to keep,
I have no wish to sleep but I know I will succumb and fail,
You will rape all my treasured past, twisting and turning
In dreams like a tornado destroying everything with its tail,
In some world, with closed eyes I watch my dreams burn.
I have no longing to climb the weighted beckoning stairs,
To disrobe all my thoughts and dreams, my uninviting bed,
I am at peace when my eyes are stolen by dead poets past,
One day I will close my eyes and climb those stairs at last.
My angels breathe in words , they offer hope through my day,
They carry memories on their wings and fly where I can't see,
I have nothing more to give but for my words upon a page,
For that's where I really sleep, in the lives of other's dreams .
