God's Christmas List

GOD’S CHRISTMAS LIST If God would write a Christmas list, I know what He would say, He’d want each one to trust in Him and to be saved today. He’d want to see each Christian live a life of faith and hope And not be bitter and complain and go around and mope. He’d want His child to die to self, to put Him first in life And pray to Him when trials come in every time of strife. He’d want them to be faithful to the reading of His word And give their tithes so willingly, His message to be heard. He’d surely want them to attend His house so faithfully Where preaching of the word of God is there for all to see. He’d want a separated life, for sure, not carnal, not pretend, And when a need arises there, on Him they would depend. To be a witness, to win souls, to pray to Him each day, To ask forgiveness when they sin or when they go astray. God’s Christmas list is not just for one month or day of year, It’s His desire for every day to reverence Him in fear. It’s reasonable to give to Him a living sacrifice A body now to honor HIM in every day of life. As I look at God’s Christmas list, I see so many ways That I could do a better job of wrapping gifts today. This year may be a different one than Christmas in the past, God’s Christmas list will never change; forever it will last. So help me, Lord, as I look at this Christmas list You gave To keep on living for You now, in every trial be brave. To face life with all of its cares and never to resist, Because I know when I do that, I’ll live Your Christmas list! --Written for Christmas, 2021
