Forgiving the Charmer
Listen to poem:
I asked the dog what he thought of my singing
He had other engagements, had heard the phone ringing
I was quite perturbed maybe the song wasn't the one
So I suggested I be Kiki Dee and he Elton John
Now he likes very much this particular song
I was on good turf, couldn't put a foot wrong
So I told him not to break my heart
He said he never would, through the medium of bark
I patted my knees and we danced round the room
Delightfully not caring if we looked like loons
I light up his life, know all the right things to say
Like walkies and treats and do you want to play
He follows me round, has hours of cuddles
Does a knowing face should I be facing struggles
Jumps in my hammock if he spots me outside
Not an ounce of love does he try to hide
Of course he was trained but not in affection
I believe we just have a true connection
He greets me at the door, agrees that he missed me
We are kindred spirits, each others cup of tea
Ok, he wasn't too thrilled when I sang Bananarama
But I've forgiven him completely because he's a real life charmer
