On a Train None Knows Whither

In the sunset eve of my life
A recurring thought plagues my mind:
How can I like a parting soul,
Discard one day and leave behind
My shame, as shoes put off in porch,
Prejudice, pain like clothes worn out,
And all that I should not carry
On last journey, with ego’s clout.

Thoughts on death, not so uncommon,
Trouble a parting traveller
Bent with lots of needless luggage,
On lips a pardon, last prayer,
Belated thoughts on living light,
His dead body nigh like a lumber,
Oh waiting on platform to go
On a train no one knows whither!
