Prodigy

A son embarks on
The worlds wanders
Triumphant in his dreams
Swallow’s unrelenting blunders
Mother hugs him
Father gripes
Our only child
In the war of stripes
Elicit drums beat
For his fight
Mother loves him
Father loses sight
Their only son
Shot down today
Mother cries
Her heart out
Father remembers his
Only child and shouts
God you know
I prayed for his life
Our only child
I and my wife
You let him die
And now he’s gone
Mother weeps
All days long
Fathers angry no
One to blame
Sad is war a
Ruthless game
