Meg Manning Poem
Center of the World
The day that you look up
Fear, intimidation, enormity
The illusion troubles you
Fills you with self-doubt
Can you face this trek
You contemplate the monstrous range
Sprawled before you, across the horizon
Impossible elevation
You are filled with astonishment
And wonder
You muster the courage to take on the odyssey
Approach slowly, deliberately
Gradually, hesitant
Proceed with awareness
And hope
You begin to trust
Yourself, your inner elevation
The constancy, firmness, magnificence of
Divine guidance
And faith
As you ascend higher
Move along on the expedition
Through the pass
The altitude is yours
The peak within your reach
You gain momentum
Your inner strength has multiplied
Your fears have dissipated
You are finally at the summit
And you realize that you are steps away
And as close to Heaven as you can be

Meg Manning Poem
The Walking Man
A man walks each night
Down the path behind my house
Tonight I see him
As I have each night before
It is promptly eight o’clock
I see his green hat
Wool, hanging over his eyes
Wears a thick, red scarf
Left, right, left, he gets closer
Can see his breath beneath the lamplight
Lamp is flickering
A gust of wind rattles the pane
He stares straight ahead
Neither a glance left nor right
Marches forward on the path
Does he sense me here
Trusting I’ll greet his night stroll
Someone waiting there
Strangely, I rely on him
To emerge from the distance
