I Guess
When someone speaks I lend an ear,
I just don't remember why I'm here.
Sheriff said he's thrown the key away.
I can't make a call, so no-one knows.
I guess that that's just how it goes--
So I'll have time to live another day.
Been forty days, cold forty nights.
Turn me loose, I know my rights.
Sheriff grins and then he tells me I am wrong.
There's many doors to locked up rooms,
don't want to die in these prison tombs.
I can only do my begging through my song.
So, I go running through my mind,
with green grass and a melon rind.
In my darkness it's my light of day.
