Prom

I watch whirling shadows, as lovers are hugging.
Disco lights tug at my heart like a small child.
The low punchbowl is both shallow and deep.

My fixation becomes both shallow and deep,
gazing upon alluring couples hugging.
I was always alone, even as a child.

Oh, the shadowed daydreams of a child....
A prince would kiss my hand; our love would be deep.
In royal attire, we'd be twirling and hugging.

Hugging the wall, like a child in the deep pool, I rise up.

Are you going to write poems anymore? You have some very interesting ones. Do not know about you. I am sick and tired of politics.

Seeking attention, yet shrinking from it...fairytales do not always come true. Nicely written Juliet. :)

Hi Juliet, I hear you. Very well penned memory of your high school prom and the shyness you felt. No one asked me to my high school prom, but it didn't bother me that much back then. I wasn't a popular girl, and my senior class was a large one, easy to get lost in. I lettered in Cross Country. So glad I came across your poem here, it brought back memories. All the best. ~

Such a sincere and heartfelt poem this is, “oh the shadowed dreams of a child” ah how that resonates so strongly with me. I felt this one! Very well expressed and delivered.
