Sleep, My Little One

Soft night has come my little child, so rest
Come lay your head upon your mother’s breast
Oh close your eyes and listen as she sings
And soon you’ll hear the sound of angel wings

Come drift away into the land of dreams
Where fairies dance and smile while sunlight gleams
Oh come and float among the clouds of white
No harm can stir within this world of light

Come laugh and play with fluffy cotton sheep
You’ll clap and sing and they will run and leap
Then come return into your warm, soft bed
Let evening kiss you softly on your head

Oh sleep until the night at last is done
Oh sleep and dream my precious little one

Gentle Giants

Branches adorned with new snow
reach high toward sapphire skies
then gently bow overhead
sheltering my path

Wnds whisper through supple limbs
- the gentle giants awake
to throw soft flakes of cold snow
at my upturned face

Nightfall

Shadows cross my doorway
Silence fills my soul
I smile at the coming of my friend
For darkness brings the quiet
Then peace at last begins
So, I wait
I wait for my friend

Winter Memory

Snowflakes fell, large and wet,
On that early morning in December
Our country home was soon enfolded
In winter's cold, white mantle

The noonday sun parted the somber clouds
With rays smiling and bright
It seemed to be saying...
"That's enough snow...for now"

Mother walked along the silent path
To where the mail was waiting
She paused for a moment and smiled
The untouched landscape, glittering white before her
Awoke the child within her heart

She began to play
Soon the beginnings of a snowman
Rested at her feet

My father watched the scene unfold
Through the bedroom window
His eyes glittered as brightly as the snow
A smile creased his face
And a chuckle escaped his lips

This picture is etched forever
In the corners of my heart
Forever I will see her there playing in the snow
Forever I will see him broadly smiling at her delight
Forever I will see them both so completely full of joy
So full of life
So full of love.

Lazy Day

A lawnmower whirrs in the distance
My neighbor has gotten ambitious
The sun shines upon my head
As I sit upon my deck
I feel the warm rays soak into my skin
Am I tanning yet?
The bees are busy buzzing
Stopping only to drink from sweet blossoms
Birds are calling happily
Back and forth across my rising lawn
Should I get ambitious too
And mow my growing grass?
I sigh
Not today . . .
Not today

Love, Dreams and Moonlight

Beams of silver light
Dance upon calm, dark waters
and within your eyes
Your breath keeps time with the waves
You are a dream in moonlight

We walk together
Our feet feel the cool wet sand
The moon smiles on us
Warm hands touch in sliver light
Hearts are joined by love and dreams

Spring Rain

The rain fell gently through the night
It tapped upon my window pane
Like friends from days of long ago
Who called for me to come and play
I listened for a child like voice
But only heard the cold wet wind
It moaned and whispered in my ear
Until it calmly died away
This call I will not answer now
I'll stay within my cozy den
I'll sit beside my friendly fire
And listen to the rain come down

And here I'll rest and dream and sigh
While nature plays her lullaby

I Am Darkness

I am darkness
But be not afraid
For I am not evil
For evil knows no hour
And is seldom hindered by the light of day

I am darkness
I am an equal partner to the light
For the evening and the morning are one day
And it is good

I am darkness
I bring rest for your tired body
Quiet for your weary mind
And peace for your troubled soul

I am darkness
I wait impatiently for the end of day
And often disregard the morning
To rest quietly in the shadow of the sun

But I dance in the silent night
I reach far into the lofty sky
I grasp at the distant stars
And cling to the very earth under your feet

I am darkness
And I am good

So come, find rest for your tired body
Enjoy my quiet for your weary mind
And drink deeply from my ocean of peace

Soul Mates

cold, lonely mountain
kissed by calm crystal waters
soul mates forever

Among the Stars

There was a small creature from Mars
Who was fascinated with all of our cars
He took one for a spin
And got bopped on the chin
Now he just flies among the stars
