The Distance Between Your Heart and Mine

There are a thousand ways to kneel and kiss the ground
And I have found my place now that I am here.
When we exhaust our resources and the flame dies,
The house grows cold and the light fades.
I have been told no one can know
The true distance from your heart to mine.
Blood types pool and then they disperse from one another.
As if they had some place better to go.
It’s now putrid scent has clung too tightly
On my tender flesh all red and scarred.
Finger nails will leave their mark
On sunken and shadowed skin.
This viscous fluid flows slowly down your body
Like a terrible molten stripping down to bone.
This is who I have become
This is the sickness that I am.
Terrible damage running deep into my tissue
And I cannot believe the horror of what I do.
Striped bare and left here to die,
As you bind our arms with razor wire.
They rub this sulfur into my wounds.
Burning skin that reminds you of the truth
I don’t mind how much you hurt me-
Just that you kiss me while you do.

The Ashes of Desire

Your contributions are pennies in the well-
All your efforts, yet no ripple can be seen at all.
If you want a memory to hold,
Then come and make one with me now.
Dance me beneath a sky of fire;
Lay me down on the ashes of desire.
Wind your fingers in my tangled hair,
Lest this passion quickly be aborted.
Make your move with force; make it fast.

Former Fires

Gouging out the rubble in our ruined eyes,
Tearing at the framework of these unkempt lives.
Numb with anticipation of some great reprieve,
A tiny prayer made that I’ll one day be allowed to leave.
Deserted here in this wretched place, I may call for you-
But what remains of decency knows that you should turn your head.
When you hear my cries and pleas to you for some respite,
Just walk away my darling, don’t come into this place for me.
Seeming to be a dream of beauty and of peace,
No one knowing of the damage carried quietly beneath.
Don’t wrap your arms around these shoulders,
Or become too fond of the scent at my neck.
Don’t entangle your fingers in my long dark hair-
Nor become attached to the soft warmth of my flesh.
It all unravels when one is still sweeping up the ashes of many former fires.
It all becomes a battleground when pulling splinters from these disasters.

Senseless Acts of Desperation

Senseless acts of desperation.
 Motions made in your sleep.
I walk where the land meets the sea
The chains are draped down my back.
Forgiving comes easy darling
Yet the memory of you remains.
I walk away from the shadow of your reign
But never have I left this dwelling since you went away.
I am unafraid,
I am letting it come down as it may.
Allowing the ebb and flow
The dispersal of retribution.
I am crawling through your pride
I am sitting with your turmoil and shame.
We have no limits there
There are no places for us to be.
Senseless acts of desperation. Motions made in your sleep.
I will always walk where the land meets your sea.

Even You and I

Lost worlds are swirling in your eyes
Looking towards the heavens were you’ll roam.
Are you ready for it now?
Are you waiting here just to go?
Well I will tell you little secrets
And I will whisper all the lovely truths to you.
I will tell you of the many ways that you can feel free.
We can talk in circles and go around the world
All the while never leaving this desperate space of mine.
You told me you would be gone before the day began
But there you were and dressed to kill.
Shall we, dear? Shall we celebrate our fall?
I will dance you to the end of love
I will dance you right up to that terrible sea.
Where the land meets the waters
And broken thoughts wash up on the shore.
Cut our throats on well-worn glass
And turn our eyes toward to the sky
For we will be going there some day.
I know we will dance there, even you and I.

Dream Tree

When you told me of this dream tree
Of it growing so wild and so free
I quickly set about to search the world,
There was nowhere that I would not go.
Said it had told you all the secrets
And it told you everything you had ever wanted to know.
I thought so long of all its boughs-
Strong and steady in the storm.
Like lust or fear, or even the instinct to gasp for air,
I sought out this force of life, desperate for this bastion of hope.
So long was the journey,
And I become unrecognizable with this distance.
With no understanding of how it was that you came upon it all.
No warning had been given only lusting descriptions of its wonder.
Now that I stand before it I finally have answers to my many questions
But you did not mention it would also tell me of every horror ever known.
No I am broken and alone
Sitting here leaned up against the trunk
Too weak to move, it is here I’ll stay forever
Unable to look away from all the things I never wanted to know.

My Holy War

Well the deed is done and the die has been cast;
Take your last kick now, at any regime.
Night has finally almost come to its end,
Yet the sun will come with its own regrets.
Your pride, your fear, those chains that you wear,
All held you here for lifetimes too long.
I have arrived at the border of the soul-
Bloodied, weary, and travel torn.
Now we must go on no matter our ghastly shape
For this new work has only just begun.
I hope your words had no hint of surrender;
That they were as steady and firm as mine.
I was born into this war torn home
But you treat it like it is just a state of mind.
In dreams inspired i tried to just stay gone,
But this conflict between the body and the soul
Always brought me back to fight in their defense.
I may live outside of you,
But I also live within.

Only a Lack of Light

Well you painted lovely pictures,
And you placed me in every one.
Now roses and thorns grow in those fallen ruins
Covering the windows and barring each door.
Nothing ever was able to keep me here,
But still you tried and you did not relent.
So now I am chained and I am here without the light.
I told you I couldn’t take your pain away
So you tied me to it when you knew I would not wait.
In this enclosure you have kept control,
And I am slowly dying, losing sight.
I kneel to meet your blade,
And lust after the reflection of any light.
Loving every moment of my tears
You dove into the sound of my cries
And lost yourself in such pleasure there.
There are so many ways we need each other
No matter if you have bound me to the bed
And there is no respite.
Like fogging glass not from heat
But decomposition that screams of some violent end.
I wanted some peace of mind
And you wanted my desperate pleas.

When Tied To the Bed

Perhaps we should not have talked in the heat of the moment,
Not while it was dark and the moon was rising.
Perhaps it was like that car left by the side of the road;
With its windows rolled up and the steam not from love but decomposition.
Some things are best left unsaid;
Especially in the dead of night when you’re tied to the bed.

Let's Stay Here Forever

Muscles tighten and something in me comes to a stop.
Heart beats but it is not enough.
When the pressure rises
Nights can be dangerous times.
With such desperate needs to meet
Not much is safe if it brings relief.
But in a place like this there is no need to tell you
You look into my eyes and you see your own disguise.
Let’s stay here my darling love,
Let’s stay here forever.
Here is everywhere that you have never been
And it is rich and silky with delight.
We can spend dark days with violent demonstration
Of all the ways we craved this hopeless night.
