My Irish Rose

No thorn could prick, my dying eyes to rest Below heavens window, God's borrowed guest, Or fulfil my heart where love had sadly failed. Like crusading knights who sought the grail. Sweet velvet petals that bridges hearts, Where beauty spreads and heaven parts, From unknown wings where time has flown, Dreams rested whilst your beauty shown. Dispersed to rest in Nature's treasured womb, To enrich our flagging spirits beyond the tomb, When life's lost souls will take my earthly place, To breathe beauty with love and healing grace. When each petal wilts and life in earnest starts, And memories pinched as winter plays her part, I will adore you in dreams of unmatched smiles, My Irish rose, beauty, that stole my straying eyes.

The Irish do have a great command of language, as you show in your poems. My Irish Rose is perfection in beauty and style. I absolutely love it. I've saved it as a favorite.

I'm in awe of your rhyme scheme, your poems fluidity and cadence , as well as your imagery. I especially liked this line: Or fulfil my heart where love had sadly failed. Like crusading knights who sought the grail. But those lost two lines were captivating and enchanting. Best wishes with the contest...hope you're well. Have wonderful evening, Sara

Good Morning Sara, apologies I have had a hectic few days travelling and not yet fully recovered but a lot stronger than I was. As always thank your kindness in your words , I tried to marry the love of a person with a flower not sure it worked but I'm learning slowly . As always thanks for your lovely comments . Danny

Dear Daniel, A beautiful and poignant poem. The opening line sets a melancholic tone, but the rose symbolizes hope. I love how the line "Like crusading knights who sought the grail" adds a layer of depth, comparing the search for love to a noble quest. Also the line "Dispersed to rest in Nature's treasured womb" eloquently speaks to the cycle of life and the enduring power of beauty. The ending leaves a lasting impression of the rose's captivating presence. - Blessings, Daniel
