Hello! My name is Matt and I've been writing poetry since middle school. I really indulged in it and tried to improve my craft around highschool and shortly after. Now I write at least a couple poems a week on average. I love to play around with metaphors and similes that express how I feel while also being unique and varied across my work. If I find I'm going back to a similar idea somewhat often, I will push myself to find another way to express the feeling as uniquely and varied as possible, even if I am writing about the same kind of feeling - the way I express it will always be different. I also play around a lot with idioms, imagery, allusion, lots of irony and hyperbolies, different rhyme patterns, personification, etc. I work very hard to make everything I write flow well and sound pretty to the ear and not clunky with too many syllables. I put a lot of double meanings and little "easter eggs" in my work. I also try to create/develop fun titles too - usually with double meanings or irony or some kind of word play. If I think it's deep enough to need explaining, I will write a little blog at the beginning of the poem. A lot of my work though does have some subtle/not so subtle intentional meanings and connections. There's always something fun to look out for in my work, even if it's a style that differs from yours. I try to keep the same elegance and charm that older styles of poetry have while modernizing it with references and metaphors that fit todays standards - while still standing out. Overall, I ensure that my poems are quality in every way. That is what's fun and challenging but also so rewarding about poetry for me, and I still get my feelings out the way I want - almost like a scuplted journal. I hope you all find something of value within my work! Thanks for reading!
