Starting with an expression and letting it run - chasing daylight
We are losing daylight Carry on, carry on I've not yet chosen Whether darkness Lightens my load Conversations Float on air Perhaps me to me There is no right Nor wrong When you expertly debate I'm on both sides To defend and condemn Myself In this situation Of loss of daylight There's an urgency That means I'm stranded I need to choose the spot Where I'll stop Perhaps it's aging Maybe wisdom But I recognise something In the half light I've never assessed it all Just made snap decisions Valued forward travel With daylight lost I'll see what here looks like Spend time a moment With myself Gauge tolerances There may be more daylight But it's not the worst thing To feel your way forward Or to stand still Day light, day/night Did I mishear The concept of invention A belief there is an invert of night The Earth rattles sometimes Almost, almost shook me loose Almost is never Because almost never tips It's the non buttered side The invert of morning The presence and absence of toast I almost explained it In the never sense Of chasing daylight
