Poem
I can’t die, though I want to I don’t cry, though I try to I may not have a choice to live Though required me more to give A little pain inside my chest Sometimes death nothing less And living freely in my way Getting closer to that day It says “I don’t have long” I’m doing things all wrong And if I want to pass life's test Kill the sins that block my best I look at all before me And look at all behind Remember all the gladness And thank the great Divine I think of what is glory the promised heavenly life and all who went before me Waiting with eternal delight I shared my hugs and kisses With holidays and weekends Sang hymns, hit’s and anthems With the spirit lead by them I mourned the times of passing Of loved ones and two dogs Shared in prayers and fasting When healing took too long I’ve studied ancient histories And compared them with today The march of time and records From books, movies and screens display I see old men and babies Entire lives in time The old the newly invented Old fashioned and out of style Count the time by presidents Surviving plagues and wars Endured the sins of communist As religions wielded the sword I outlived the shoot and aged By the grace of God Yet it’s not the game well played That mimics each daily crawl And I’m asked “Am I finished?” I ask “Is life through with me?” Is there anything else coming New for me to see I’ve been taught and now I teach Each level to their degree Yet life is short and a very long way from what they call a century Wrinkles, canes and ailments Still await poor me Memories thoughts of recognition And sanity still for eyes to see Still a presence and not a thing Still able for bells to ring Still alive with my song to sing Still waiting for what else it brings Though age has had it’s say But only takes a pause Dreams still encompass me With visions of new laws My time may yet record The coming of the Lord And with eternal bliss Continue my endless list
